Description:

A distinctly educational cooking primer for the whole family with more than 100 recipes that can be made by children. Written by a father of three and a mother of five who perfected the recipes with help from their kids and their kids' playmates. Ideal for passionate parents who want to instill in their children a love of healthy food handmade from fresh, natural ingredients.

The latest addition to the best-selling River Cottage cookbook series inspires the entire family to venture into the kitchen to prepare delicious, wholesome food together. Featuring a comprehensive repertoire of recipes that cooks of all ages will enjoy--plus special projects such as making butter, curing bacon, and building a kitchen garden--The River Cottage Family Cookbook teaches lessons for a lifetime of joyous cooking and eating.

"Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is a brilliant, argumentative British cook and food writer. . . . [His] recipes happen to be terrific, for meat and other things: His chocolate-chip cookie recipe in The River Cottage Family Cookbook finally released my children from years of substandard attempts." --Cynthia Zarin, Gourmet

"A book that promises children a better start in the kitchen and at table by putting real food well within their grasp. . . . [It] sets the imagination alight, engages all the senses in a voyage of culinary discovery, encourages young cooks to think for themselves and to want to learn more." --Phillippa Davenport, Financial Times

"On my shelf of `genuinely useful cookbooks,' cross-referenced with my folder of `ways to entertain the kids at weekends.'" --Time Out

Love the book. If you have a kid that is interested in food at all, this will be a book for them. In fact, if you are new to the foodie world and want a great course in the ins and outs of food from production, being green, sustainable living, skills, tools, etc then this is for you too. It goes over the same material found in his other books, but strangely it reads better and is clearer. I think with his target audience being children he got it right for a much wider audience. My 12 year old son and I made the salmon cakes the other night and Andrew followed the entire recipe himself and did it all. The recipe could be better, but it was just fine for a start.
