I bought this book when it was named to the Gourmet Book Club. After having made at least 75% of the recipies, I still go back to this book week after week. The Slow-Roasted Pork with Red Cabbage, Jalapenos, and Mustard is inspired and delicious with or without bread. Smoked Coleslaw takes sausages out of the ordinary forever. Breakfast sandwiches are great for a weekend morning or when you just can't bear the thought of facing the same old thing one more day. While this cookbook is not the type of book that will produce a quick sandwich with items already found in your fridge, it will produce very tasty ones that are well worth the effort. Components of some of the sandwiches are made individually, and some planning and pre-cooking will be involved for some selections. That being said, the results are superb and worth waiting and planning for. Many of the sandwiches are great for serving at parties and are always popular at my house. These are not simple ham and cheese or turkey and mayo sandwiches, and that is definitely not what I am looking for in a sandwich book. I love sandwiches, I don't want a run of the mill one, and I am willing to put a little effort into what I eat. One negative about the book is that a few of the component recipes made quite a bit more than was needed for four sandwiches. Not a huge deal, as many of the components are very good on their own or quantites can be scaled down.

I do not like this book very much. It is full of sandwich recipes that no one wants to eat.
