Caffe Italia

Alas! If I'd enlarged the pic of the cover of this book, I would've seen "over 30 delicious recipes," and realized it was one of those heavily-illustrated, low on content picture-cookbooks which are such a poor value (in my opinion). However, the cover wouldn't have revealed that there is not a SINGLE recipe for biscotti in it-- and it has a section entitled "cookies and biscotti"!! I've searched the (tiny) section page by heavily-illustrated page. I've perused the tiny index (only half a page long, as there are so few recipes). If this "book" had been described as a fairly thorough magazine article, I believe that would have been more accurate; and even at that, it's more a non-Italian's take on Italian baking than a selection of real Italian recipes (with a few exceptions), as she describes in several that the dish is traditionally made one way, but SHE does it a different way! I bought this book in hopes of picking up a few more recipes for butterless biscotti, the old-style type I prefer. When the description of the book, and even the book itself, mentions biscotti and DOESN'T INCLUDE A SINGLE ONE, it's irritating enough that I'm going to return it, and I can't recall ever doing that with a cookbook.

Not a bad book. Nice illustrations.
