As Bruce noted, the one downside (which keeps me from giving it 5 stars) is specific brand tools and equipment. Otherwise it's an excellent book with good information about what you need and don't need, what to look for when choosing, and how to care for. It even includes a number of recipes. Of course, it's written and illustrated in Alton's typical style.

Alton is his typical fun and informative self here. His advice on what to look for when seeking pots, knives, deep friers, and everything else to stock your kitchen is expectably good. The big drawback is his selections for specific tools, by name and brand - since the market is constantly changing, the book is already becoming dated.
